Professor Layton The Lost Future video game review There is something refreshingly comforting about playing a Professor Layton title and this is true whether www pandora charms you're a long standing fan of the franchise, or someone coming to it for the very first time.
This is because this series of wonderful puzzle games are some of the most charming titles to ever grace a console. Everything about the Professor Layton games is note perfect; the stories are intriguing and witty, the puzzles are challenging and the visuals and soundtrack have the ability to evoke a warm glow in even the most jaded of players. Playing one of Level 5's Layton games produces the same snug feeling of enjoyment as curling up on the couch with a great book, and the latest and best entry in the series, Professor Layton The Lost Future, is no different. Professor Layton The Lost Future follows the successful format of the previous instalments in the franchise. Professor Layton and his sidekick Luke start the game considering the barest threads of a mystery, and in short order they're up to their necks in adventure and intrigue. Along the way to solving their latest case, the pair encounter a cast of increasingly odd characters who offer them a series of mind bending puzzles to solve; these range from maths based conundrums to clever word games, to picture puzzles to jigsaws and more. There are over 165 puzzles in the new game and, unlike in other Professor Layton entries, the general difficulty level seems set within consistent perimeters. There are no puzzles that are laughably easy, but also there are none which are eye wateringly hard. Players who find themselves stumped can (as in other Layton titles) spend hint coins to open up clues to the puzzles; the coins are scattered about the game's environments and players find them by tapping on certain items with the DS's stylus. The stylus is also used to navigate around the different environments, start conversations with characters, solve the different puzzles and open the save menu, which also contains a diary and a couple of new mini games for players to get stuck into. A new addition is a handy memo function which players can use to work out solutions to the puzzles before having to submit their answers. The hint system has also been expanded; one hint coin will open a coyly worded clue while paying three hint coins results in the game doing everything but giving the player the answer outright. The new mini games contained in the game's menu are engaging and sure to attract completists; one involves training a parrot to carry fruit using rope pieces and perches, one is based around navigating a track with a toy car and one is a picture book which players can fill with stickers they find in the main game. Once players complete the game they can go back and try out any puzzles which stumped them (not all of the puzzles need to be solved in order to beat the game) and some of the bonus challenges which the ending unlocks. Of course, the best reason to play Professor Layton The pandora the store Lost Future is the game's story, which, without giving too much away, is the best in the series so pandora charms countries far. Level 5 have crafted a compelling and barmy tale involving time travel, kidnapped scientists, lost lovers and a villain who bears more than a passing resemblance to good Professor himself. Naturally, all of it is beautifully animated, wonderfully scored and complimented by some of the best voice acting around. Indeed, it's testament to the game's aesthetic charms and the strength of its plot that Level 5 have hardly needed to tinker with any of the gameplay or extra content to entice players to the Professor's latest adventure. Sequels usually earn a good kicking if they bear too much resemblance pandor charms to their predecessors, but in the case of this game, the opposite is true. Professor Layton The Lost Future is an absolute delight. It may look and play a lot like the previous two games in the series, but that doesn't stop it from being an essential title in its own right, as well as one of the better games of this year.
